So the weather has not been great to say the least, however we are still managing to get out there and the fishing has been generally quite good.Kingies have been a little tricky lately with no spots being consistent. We have been picking up fish of various sizes and in various places. Some days the nice 15kg ones have been in close, but not every day though. On board the SpotX charter boat ‘Screaming Reels ‘ in the Bay of Islands we do a lot of fishing for kingfish. To help us achieve great results we like to use good quality gear. For our live bait and our jigging outfits we use PENN. The live bait set up consists of PENN Fathom 40 lever drag reels on PENN Ocean Assassin PE 5-8 rods loaded with 15 or 24 kg mono. We have been very lucky this year not only with fabulous summer weather but also amazing fishing. And still is! The Snapper fishing in the Bay of Islands is difficult as usual at this time of the year. Middle areas are full of small fish and can be very frustrating going through your bait or softbait rapidly.
