BOI Fishing Report 13May26

Finally a break in the SE winds that have been constant over the last 2 weeks, so we took the opportunity to get out. Judging by the number of trailers at the boat ramp, so did everyone else! Our plan was to check the deep and snag a few snapper for a feed. We didn’t quite get to the target spot as came across a large raft of birds sitting over huge bait balls around the 50m mark. We did the usual slow drift across the area and started off with some sizeable blue mackerel taking the jigs. Few snapper seemed to be in attendance with most just under size!
One of the main reasons I enjoy slow jigging in the deeper waters is that you never know what you’re going to hook up and a Kingi on a slow jig is a challenge!

Some great fishing has been reported up the Waikare Inlet and around the oyster farms in very shallow water. The local lads also report that they’ve caught some very nice sized snapper off the Rocks. Autumn fishing is on fire!

Next on the tournament calendar is the International Yellowtail to be held 7 – 12 June. The competition is now fully subscribed and this year I will be at the Weigh station rather than out there fishing.

Come into the shop to check out the latest in gear, get your bait, ice and berley, and most importantly, some genuine intel! We have reduced our opening days from the 1st May through to the 1st September. Closed Mon, Tues and Thurs, Open Weds, Fri, Sat from 9am to 4.00pm, but close on Sundays at 3pm. As always, if you urgently need some supplies after hours just give me a call.
