BOI Fishing Report - 19th February 2026
The Eldorado Bill fish tournament was held on the 26-28th February. We entered the mighty 2050 Stabi to compete with the big boys and “enjoyed” 3 days of somewhat sporty sea conditions. On day two, we snagged a double of yellowfin tuna and shortly followed up with a Mahi-mahi for yours truly. A club pin fish! The same day we saw 2 marlin and although one seemed to take a look at the lures we didn’t get a bite. Only a single broadbill swordfish was tagged for the entire tournament!
The results of the Eldorado were as follows:
Banana Trophy, Biggest F**k up - Garry Townley aboard Merrin - always remember to bring your riggers down before driving up the ramp!!! Sometimes you have to laugh at yourself!
Heaviest other species - John Edlin, Bellevie, 23.25kg yellowfin tuna
Male angler most points - Brad Batterton, 500 points
Winning team - Resolution
Winning skipper - Jeff Douglas
Winning crewman - Hammer
Meanwhile in the Bay the snapper and kingfish fishing has been variable. We have ventured out deep and only managed a few fish but other report good fish in the shallows.
Next on the tournament calendar is the Russell Volunteer Fire Brigade Annual Gamefish Tournament to be held 19-21st March, followed by the Truckers and Loggers on the 26th to 28th March.
