Bay of Islands Fishing Report 4Ap24

Noah with a nice pannie snapper for dinner that night!

We had great weather over Easter and there were plenty of boats out in the Bay. I managed to get out for a morning with young Noah, who had come up from Auckland for the Easter break. While the plan to snag an impressive model sized fish didn’t eventuate, the joy and smiles produced by pannie sized fish was well worth it!

There are plenty of small size pannies in the shallows and most people report being plagued by just undersized fish. I have upsized the hooks and baits to deter the smaller fish and while bait refreshing is constantly required, a few better size models are eventually caught.

This weekend (6-7April) is the Cater Marine Small Boats Tournament hosted by the Bay of Islands Swordfish Club. While the weather forecast is looking somewhat average, I think we’ll give it a go.

Come into the shop to check out the latest in gear, get your bait, ice and berley, and most importantly, some genuine intel! We are open from 9.00am to 5pm, everyday except Sunday closing at 3pm. As always, if you urgently need some supplies after hours just give me a call.
