Bay of Islands Fishing Report: Catch the Latest Action!

The latest Bay of Islands fishing report for 30 October 2025 brings exciting updates for anglers eager to cast their lines! Labour weekend Saturday started off great, with many reports of nice fish being landed or released. The Kingfish were aggressively attacking jigs around the iconic Hole in the Rock while anglers were also snagging some extra-large snapper. One customer even came into the shop with a net so large that it barely fit his catch!

On Friday evening, I decided to sneak out and discovered that the school fish were still deep, with depths of about 70 meters or more. Using heavy jig heads, soft baits, and heavier slow jigs, I quickly filled the bin. During last weekend, I had the pleasure of being a weighmaster. Young Tyler Davey showcased his skill by capturing a spectacular 9.45 kg snapper using 10 kg line, earning him a club pin and potentially a junior record!

A highlight of the fortnight was Martin Cleave and Nore Martin, who arrived in the Bay one Sunday afternoon. Armed with salt ice and berley from our shop, they set out to Wairiwi Rock for an overnight adventure. The next morning, they hooked a massive Pacific Bluefin Tuna. With Nore on the rod, after an intense 2-hour battle, they successfully landed the fish, weighing in at a remarkable 249.2 kg—just 2 kg shy of the record! The key takeaway? Never give up on your fishing dreams!
