Bay of Islands Fishing Report 26Jun24

Ben with his personal best Snapper.

The Russell boat ramp has received a long overdue makeover with the broken bottom portion of the ramp repaired. Work is ongoing for the ramp parking area and by spring should be sealed and ready to go. Weather wise over the last fortnight hasn’t been great with lots of rain and wind. Nevertheless, there has been a day or two fishable and we have managed a feed each time continuing to strayline the shallows.

The locals report some good-sized fish from the rocks or fishing relatively shallow. Local, Paul is using huge slabs of fresh kahawai and is getting some great fish. Ben Withers fishing with his Dad on Monday morning brough in a 17lb fish for a weigh. His Personal Best and a proud Dad moment.

At this stage the weather for Matariki weekend looks fishable so get out there and have a go!
