Bay of Islands Fishing Report 15Dec22

Gamefish have arrived
Neither the weather nor the fish have been playing ball over the last two weeks.

We managed a couple of 4kg fish last Sunday but they were the only two bites all day. Other anglers also reported that the fishing had been slow over the past couple of weeks.

Joas from Alberta, Canada, was very happy with his only fish caught on a Beady Eye Kabura. He said, “boy, these fish fight hard!”

The Battery Town Ice Breaker competition saw a tagged marlin, two yellowfin, and some large measured and released snapper over 70cm. Recent reports show numbers of yellowfin being caught off Doubtless Bay and more recently some at the Nine Pin trench.

I went out wide for half a day and found some skippies and flying fish but otherwise, nil to report. However, it was a good trial run for the game gear which will see some more action soon.

Come into the shop to check out the latest in gear, get your bait, ice, berley, and, most importantly, hear some genuine intel! We are open every day throughout the holidays except for Xmas day.
