Where did the last 4 weeks go??? I’m happy to report that it’s been a busy period with sales of salt ice, berley and bait through the roof! Reports from customers indicate that the fishing has been a hit and miss affair but there have been some notable catches. Johnny and his family have been enjoying some great fishing including a couple of 20lbers off the Tapeka rocks. I’ve managed to get out a few times and we haven’t missed yet although it’s been a bit harder to find where the fish are holding. Again, it’s been a case of...

The snapper continue to bite well most days in the Bay of Islands. About a week ago, Grant Dixon joined us for a fish aboard Merrin. The Bay of Islands continues to provide great snapper fishing. My good mate, Tony from Tauranga, came up for last weekend to get his annual “fix” of fishing in the BOI. And it didn’t disappoint. On Fire! The Bay of Islands is simply on fire as the school fish have arrived and the weather has been great! Happy to report that every time we’ve been out, some great fish have been caught. The bite times from fishing.net.nz have been spot on, we fished for 3 hours with little to show for it and them boom, at the predicted time all hell broke loose! Interestingly, I haven’t come across a single work up in the last 2 weeks, but there this plenty of bait showing on the sounder. Find the bait sign, and drifting through it...

Regular customer Alex headed out for a solo fish to get his fix and on his first drop, boom, got a 23lb snapper. Fortunately, he met up with a mate on the way home to get the photo! As is typical with the school holidays, the weather dutifully turned for the worse during the 1st week! Nevertheless, some young keen lads were down at the Tapeka rocks the weekend before last – braving the wet and windy conditions, they caught 3 great snapper. A couple of days later I was shown a video of a 20lb plus fish being returned...
